SINCLAIR: Edward & Cecile
Edward Sinclair was born to Archibald and Mary Ann Sinclair at Lindsay, Ontario, September 4, 1878. Later he moved with his parents to Cavalier, North Dakota.
In 1903 he took up a homestead on the south-east 1/4 16-5-5. In 1905 Sinclair was opened and Cecile Drummond of Holland, Manitoba became the first teacher. In 1907 Edward and Cecile were married.
Ed and Cecile moved to Bienfait where Ed ran a poolroom. Later they took up residence in Roche Percee where he owned a dance hall. He also looked after the park and owned a mine along the river bank. A flood in 1948 destroyed the dance hall and the organ in it went floating down the river. It was ruined so Ed made a cupboard out of it. The hall was torn down and never replaced.
Ed was quite a handyman. He made himself a dumb waiter out of two culverts, which he let down into the ground for keeping his food cool.
Cecile died in 1941 and was buried at Bienfait. Ed lived in Roche Percee until the mid sixties. He lived in Blue Lodge at Weyburn and later went to a nursing home in Regina where he died at the age of eighty-four. He was buried at Riverside cemetery in Regina.
Ed and Cecile had no children. Ed loved children and was pleased when we named one of our sons Edward. There was someone to carry on his name. Dan and I and the children used to visit him once or twice a year. We usually packed a picnic lunch and visited him on his birthday.
Many people spoke well of him. He was Uncle Ed to everyone Submitted by Chris Sinclair to
