MARSH: Arthur D. and Family

I was born at Anita, Iowa, on Feb.11, 1895, and came to Arcola in March, 1912. I worked on the home farm west of town until 1917, when I left home to work on various farms throughout the district until the spring of 1924. Then I rented a farm three miles east of Arcola. On June 24,1924 Fledda Littlejohn and I were married.

Fledda was born on July 10, 1901, at Glasston, North Dakota. In 1904, she moved with her family to Browning where her father, Albert Littlejohn, had taken up a homestead. In 1906, the Littlejohns moved to a farm just west of Arcola, where she lived until her marriage.

After our marriage, we lived on the farm east of Arcola and our son Lorne, was born there. He attended school in Arcola.

In 1934, owing to the drought, we gave up farming and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where I worked for Algoma Steel Company as a master mechanic, retiring in 1963.

Misfortune struck our home in 1977 when Fledda passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly on May 24. Her burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery.

Lorne was born in 1925 in Arcola. After serving in WW II, he married Mary Kilty in 1950. They have five sons.

On October 7, 1978 I married Ruth Longstreet (nee Harris) of Arcola, and we live in Sault Ste. Marie.

Ruth, daughter of Arthur and Laura Harris, was born in Manitoba in 1910. She completed her schooling in Willmar, married Bruce Longstreet, and they had two girls. Bruce passed away in 1974.
